Our upstairs AC unit gave out on us late last summer. I scheduled two HVAC repair services to come out and check on the upstairs condensing unit to see what the problem was so we could get a couple of quotes for the repair work. The first HVAC repair service showed up late morning, but they said they couldn't inspect or repair the AC unit for another month because the temperature needed to be at least 70 degrees. They went on their way and I said I'd be in touch in a month. The second appointment was with Garrett in the afternoon and I was going to cancel, but decided to keep it and see how they would handle things. When they showed up I described the problem we were having with the upstairs AC unit and they immediately went out to check the capacitor in the unit. They performed a voltage test on the capacitor and found that it was no longer holding a charge. They didn't have a replacement unit that day, but said they could come back the following day and replace it with a new one. They replaced the capacitor the next day and we checked the upstairs AC and it was working fine again. I was prepared for a major repair bill for this, but was pleased that it ended up costing less that $300. Guess I don't need to call the other company back in a month.
